Edith Matilda

I love David Batchelor

Edith Matilda is currently a Bury based artist, although she may not be current for very long, as she is bedridden in Fairfield General Hospital. Her practice is rooted in watercolours, two of which were absorbed into Bury Museum of Art’s permanent collection in 2008. Upon receiving the news of her imminent demise, Edith turned to more contemporary art for inspiration. She soon found the work of David Bachelor, whose work obsesses the increasingly infirm octogenarian.

David David, how I love you Your vibrant colours stun me, Your city hues woo me,
Your plastic palette is pleasant.

David David how I despair when you are not near me yet you are always there

When I look out the window of my city flat I see the neon brights
I see the wet pavements
I see your face in the relections
